I've been playing with using different veggies in my baked goods since I read the post on Chocolate Covered Kate about zucchini cupcakes. I liked the taste of the zucchini, but it had two drawbacks.
Chocolate Covered Kateでのzucchini cupcakesについてポストを読んでから、色々な野菜を使ってケーキとかを焼いてみているね。ズッキニを使ったのは、味がよかったけん、弱点が二つだと思っている。
One, zucchini is surprisingly hard to find and expensive here. Two, it actually imparts TOO much moisture for my weak-sauce convection oven to bake the stuff. It has an unfortunate tendency to end up like pudding, rather than cake or muffins or whatever.
一点は、ズッキニが意外と見つけにくくて、値段が高いんだ。二点は、水分が多すぎて、パワーが低い私のオーブンがちゃんと焼けないようだよ。ケーキとかマーフィンとかより、むしろプリンみたいになっちまう傾向がある。
So I decided to try other, more available, lower-moisture veggies. One, which is a no-brainer for carrot-cake-loving Americans, was carrots. The other was cauliflower. I already posted the pics of my carrot-cake boatmeal, so now I'll report on the cauliflower. （＾.＾）
だからさ、他のもっと買いやすくて、水分がすくない野菜を試すことにした。一つは、カロットケーキ好きなアメリカ人にとって当然なのはにんじん。もう一つのはカリフラワー。もうカロットケーキのボートミールの写真をポストしたから、カリフラワーの結果を報告します。 （＾.＾）
Again, I used boatmeal as my base, and incorporated the experimental ingredients into it. I'm pleased to report that the cauliflower works really well. It gets soft and sweet, and texture-wise is not unlike potato. In fact, it's difficult to distinguish from the "normal" parts at all. This would be great for someone who's squeamish about putting "weird" veggies into their sweets. Also, the moisture content is low enough that this doesn't liquefy the batter into soup. If it changes anything, it gives the whole shebang more heft and substance.
前と同じように、ボートミールをベースにして、試験的な食品を加えた。嬉しいことに、うまく行ったんだ。やわらかくて甘くなったりして、ポテトのようだと思う食感になった。実は、普通な部分と殆ど見分けれなかったよ。「野菜を入れるのが変」と思う人にばっちりのかもしれないね。その上に、カリフラワーの水分はプリンのようにならないほどすくないし。普通なケーキと違うと言えるところなら、もっと濃くて満腹感を与えることかも。
