A meal at a Diner.

 アメリカのレストランの中で、日本にないのがある。それが、「Diner」、「ダイナー」っていうレストランです。ダイナーは、二十四時間営業で、 いつでも朝ごはんの食べ物が食べれる店なんだ。私が一ヶ月前アメリカに帰った時、久しぶりに会ってない友達と、ダイナーで食事をした。

アメリカの補填的なレストランだから、アメリカっぽい食事にした。

Among American restaurants, there's one kind that just doesn't exist in Japan. That's the restaurant we call "diners." Diners are places that are open 24/7, where you can always order breakfast. When I went home a month ago, I met some friends I hadn't seen in a while for a meal at a diner.

Because it was a classic kind of place, we had very American-y meals.

いつでも朝ごはんでいいと言ったでしょう？これは私とミンディのパンケーキ。アメリカのパンケーキはでっかいだよね！

Like I said, you can always get breakfast. So these are Mindi's and my pancakes. American pancakes are huge!

ミンディは、スクラップルも食べた。

Mindi also went for scrapple.

Reaganは、チーズステーキにした。イタリアパンと焼いた薄切り牛肉と玉ねぎとチーズ。Reaganがケッチャプもかけた。

Reagan got a cheese steak.  Italian bread, grilled thin-sliced beef, onions and cheese. Reagan also put ketchup on his.

Wendyは、オムレット（卵の中で、フィリングが巻き込まれる）と、朝食のポテト。

Wendy had an omelette (just egg, with the filling inside) with breakfast potatoes.

 

デザートには、Reaganがアイスクリームとルートビールのフロートにした。ルートビールは、お酒ではなくて、コーラなんだ。

For dessert, Reagan got an ice cream and root beer float. Root beer isn't alcoholic; it's a kind of soda.

ミンディは、基本的なアップルパイを食べた。ほんで。。

Mindi went for a basic apple pie. And...

私が選んだデザート！これはカロット（人参）ケーキです。どう見えても、チョコレートが全然入ってないよ。シナモンなどのスパイスが使われているので、こんな色になっている。千切り人参も入っているけど、特に人参の味がしない。色々なレストランでそれぞれのレシピがあるから、所によって、カロットケーキの味が違う。でも、それだからこそカロットケーキを注文するのが美味しくて楽しいと思う！

What I had for dessert! This is carrot cake. Despite its looks, there's no chocolate at all in it. It uses spices like cinnamon, which is what gives it that color. There are also thin-sliced carrots in it, but it doesn't particularly taste like carrot. Lots of restaurants have their own respective recipes, so the flavor of carrot cake depends on the place. But it's for that very reason that I think getting carrot cake is tasty and fun!

If you ever go to America, be sure to try going to a diner!
