Deer Me.

So yeah. There's this place in Japan called Nara. It's an old, highly historical city. There's a lot of culture there, including one of the more famous Buddhist temples in the country: Toudaiji. There you can find what I believe is the largest Buddha statue in the world, called the Daibutsu.

Mindi and I went to Nara this past weekend, and viewed the temple from the outside.

あのね。日本では、ある「奈良」っていう場所があるね。昔からの、すごく歴史的な市なんだ。文化がいっぱいで、その中での一つは、日本の有名な「東大寺」っていうお寺だ。そこで、（私が知っている限り）世界的に一番大きい「大仏」っていう銅像がある。

この前の週末、ミンディと私はその東大寺に行ってきた。外からお寺を眺めた。

It's impressive, even from the outside.

外でも、大した物だよね。

We declined to go inside, as it was crowded and we didn't feel like going through the line to get tickets. You can see how big the temple and gate are if you compare them to the people in the photos.

We did, however, buy some mitarashi dango from one of the many vendors along the path.

込んでいたし、ごっつ並んでいたようだったし、中に入るのはやめておいた。見える人と比べたら、門や寺の大きさが分かるだろう。

しかし、道に沿っての店のみたらし団子は、遠慮しなかったね。

Yum.

美味しい。

But the highlight, the MAIN reason people go to Nara, is for the deer. 

でも、奈良に行く理由の中で、メインは、鹿を見ることと思う！

お腹がすいていて、

 

 ...adorable deer.

可愛い鹿たち。

You can purchase "shika senbei", or deer crackers, to feed them. And they KNOW it. They will follow you forever if you have shika senbei. And bite your butt.

鹿を食べさせるせんべいも買えること。鹿はそれがはっきりと分かるさ。せんべい持っていたら、ずっと追いつかれるのよ。尻も噛み付かれてしまう。

"Please feed the animals."

「動物に餌をやって下さい。」
