About a week after Mindi arrived in Japan, one of my teachers, Okino-sensei, wanted us three to have a girls' day out. Because it's one of the more famous places in Tokushima prefecture, she took us to the city of Naruto (yes, the eponymous character from the anime of the same name did get his name from the city, though there's a bit of explanation behind it). The main attraction there? The whirlpools.
ミンディが来てから一週間ぐらい後、私の同慮の一人の沖野先生は、皆三人で一日の旅行をしたがった。徳島県の中で、かなり有名な所だから、鳴門市に連れて行ってくれた （その名前のついているアニメの主役の名前は、確かに鳴門市から取っているけど、もうちょっと不快説明があるけど）。鳴門市でのマインは？渦潮だよ。
After that, we went to get on a whirlpool tour boat. From the boat, the wind was on our faces and we could feel the spray from the waves. It felt incredible. Even more than that, it was nostalgic. I think it's been something like 10-something odd years since the last time I was on a boat.
その後は、渦潮のツアーの船に乗ってきた。船で、涼しい風が顔に吹いたり、潮煙も感じたりして、すごく気持ちよかったね。しかも、この前一番最近船に乗った時は、多分十数年になっているから、懐かしかったんだ。

最初には、近くの階段が付いている小さい山に上って、天辺から周りの景色をしばらく眺めていた。上の写真はそこで撮ったのなのよね。ビューって、すばらしかった。
First, we climbed up a small mountain nearby that had a stairway, and spent a while just gazing out at the scenery around us. The picture above was taken from that spot. It was an awesome view.

We also caught sight of this pirates-y looking boat. It made us laugh, lol.
このパイレツみたいな船もみかけた！面白かった、笑
It was a load of fun! (^o^)/ And I got to take a bunch of neat pictures, to boot. But one thing, though. At the base of the mountain, there were these really tasty-looking "potato mochi" being sold. But when we came back down, they were all sold out, so we didn't get to try them! While thinking what a shame it was, I also resolved that there was no choice but to come back again to have some. So, it looks like we'll just have to go back at some point.
楽しかった！（＾o＾）/ なかなかいける写真もいっぱい撮れたし。でもね、山の麓では、美味しそうな芋餅が売っていたのに、上まで行ってくると、売切れてしまったから、食べれなかった。「残念！」と思いながら、「また今度食べにくるよりほか、しかたないね」も思っちゃった。だから、いつか、また行かなきゃならないでしょう。
After seeing the whirlpools, we went to have tonkatsu! Mindi hadn't been to a real, Japanese tonkatsu restaurant yet, so I wanted to give her the chance.
渦潮を見てきたら、とんかつを食べに行った！ミンディは、日本の本物のとんかつ屋がまだだったので、食べさせてあげたかったんだ。
Our food! At the top is my "ume shiso" katsu. You see, I LOVE the combination of ume and shiso, so when I saw it on the menu I had to get it. The middle one is Mindi's "demi(glace) miso" katsu, and the bottom one is Okino-sensei's "oroshi"(grated daikon) katsu. This meal was so good!
私たちの食事！一番上は、私の「梅しそ」カツ。私はね、梅しその組み合わせが大好きだから、メニューを見ていたら、注文しないではいられなかったから。真中のは、ミンディのデミみそカツで、一番下のは、沖野先生のおろしカツ。美味しかった、この晩ご飯！
